My daughter and I thought we were going to enjoy a Special for one and a combo E, and let the server know that we knew what we wanted before being seated. Then she would not take our order and said that she would be right back. Waited for a few minutes and she was at the bar grabbing drinks for another table. So here we are at Shanghai Mandarin Restaurant Kamloops by the Clock Tower enjoying a great buffet meal. Walked out and came to a place that typically has great service.

Food was great, however we sat there for an hour after we placed our order. My husband counted over 20 takeout orders going out as we sat there dying of starvation before our food finally arrived.

Visiting kamloope whilst on the mountaineer train. Having dined at both the best and the cheapest places in the world (3 star restaurant in Hong Kong vs Asian night market food), here is my honest opinion. Quality: 3.5Service: 5Pros: QUANTITY.... was massive. Be prepared to be full! Taste was passable for a small town place. I was expecting buffet quality food so I was nicely surprised by the lack of MSG in their food. Service was very good when we asked for anything it was always met with a smile. They even allowed us to cancel a dish when we realized we over ordered. Cons: taste was ok only and when we ordered prawns, we got shrimps. But other dishes were nice and large so it was a bit of a hit and miss. Food was slow with the soup coming after 30min of order (most places will do it in 10)Overall, we fed a family of 8 with heaps of left overs for $140 which is super cheap imo. Hence the high rating when you consider economy.

Driving from Jasper back to Vancouver on Canada Day left us with very little choice. Stopped here for a late lunch and it was great! The front of house were lovely and attentive. The menu had a variety of Americanized Chinese food and some authentic dishes, so we were very satisfied. A bit on the sweeter side but understandable given the demographic of the community. My parents were very happy to eat something else other than burgers during our trip.

Their website said to be prepared for a new food experience and they were right. It was terrible. The staff was rude and the food was pretty much inedible. Nothing had much flavour and most of it was undercooked. If you're looking for a decent meal, I recommend you keep looking. I'd like to say it was inexpensive but it was just cheap. Threw most of it out. Hopefully it does a great job as compost.
